Community to return as a film

'Six seasons and a movie' becomes a reality

American sitcom Community is to finally become a movie.

Streaming service Peacock has confirmed the news, fulfilling fans' long-standing cry that the college-based comedy deserves 'six seasons and a movie'.

Original creator Dan Harmon will oversee the project with returning cast including  Joel McHale, Gillian Jacobs, Danny Pudi, Alison Brie, Jim Rash and Ken Jeong.

However, it appears Donald Glover and  Chevy Chase - who clashed on set during the original series - do not appear to be returning.

Peacock confirmed the news by tweeting: 'Ordered. #sixseasonsandamovieOnPeacock.'

McHale also tweeted the news, but accidentally tagged Gillian Anderson rather than Gillian Jacob. The X Files Corwn actress tweeted back: 'Gillian Jacobs who? I’m in' prompting McHale to reply: 'Perfect!
Costume fitting and table read are next Tuesday.

Susan Rovner,  who is in charge of entertainment content on the platform, said: '"Six seasons and a movie" started out as a cheeky line from Community’s early seasons and quickly ignited a passionate fan movement for this iconic, hilarious and cool (cool, cool) NBC comedy.

'We’re incredibly grateful that 15 years later, we are able to deliver fans this promised movie and can’t wait to get to work... to continue this epic comedy for Peacock audiences.'

Community originally began on Peacock's parent company in 2009. It was cancelled in 2014, but was then picked up by Yahoo! for a final season in 2015.

Nor release date for the movie has yet been announced. Peacock's original shows are usually available on Now TV in the UK.
