
Mrs Brown's Boys to return for a series in 2023
The first non-festive episodes in a decade
Mrs Brown’s Boys star Fiona O’Carroll has confirmed that the sitcom will return as a ‘mini-series’ of four episodes next year.
The shows will be in addition to the two Christmas specials airing at the end of this year, and represent the first run of non-festive episodes in ten years.It had previously been reported that a comeback series was set to be taped in April – but that never happened.
Fiona is the daughter of sitcom creator Brendan O’Carroll and plays Maria in the series. She told Ireland’s RTE Guide magazine: ‘In October, we’ll be filming Mrs Brown: two Christmas specials and the first of a mini-series of four episodes, the other three early next year,' she told the RTE Guide.
Mrs Brown’s Boys ran for three series from 2011 to 2013 – and BBC One has aired both a Christmas and New Year special every year since. Audiences peaked at 11.4million viewers for its 2013 Christmas specials, but the last festive double bill averaged 4.68 million.It continues to be popular as a live show, with performances at the SSE Arena in Belfast and 3Arena in Dublin in November.
Fiona added: ‘We’re planning more theatre dates for next year.’
The Mrs Brown’s Boys cast also includes O’Carroll’g wife Jennifer Gibney, son Danny, and sister Eilish.
