
Corrie's Beverley Callard to play Morgana Robinson’s mum
In new Gold comedy Newark, Newark
Coronation Street star Beverley Callard has joined the cast of old's recently announced comedy, Newark, Newark.
The actress will play Pauline, the mother of Morgana Robinson’s central character, Maxine.
The three-part series revolves around the pugnacious chip shop manager and exhausted matriarch as she tries to ride out her divorce from dullard ex-husband, Terry, as played by Mathew Horne.
Callard – who played Liz McDonald on Corrie for more than 20 years - broke the news on ITV’s Loose Women this morning.
Her previous comedy roles inclded Barbara in the 2000 BBC sitcom The Peter Principle and Flo Henshaw in the BBC Three sitcom Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps. She took part in I'm A Celebrity... last year and was the third contestant to be voted off.
Newark, Newark was written by Nathan Foad and will air on Gold in early 2022.
When the show was announced on Monday, Foad said: ‘If I could go back in time and tell my teenage self anything, I'd look him straight in his chubby little face and I'd say, "Growing up different in this town might not be easy, but one day they're gonna let you make a TV show about it. Also, learn to breathe through your nose.
