Alongside Borat's Maria Bakalova

People Just Do Nothing star Asim Chaudhry is to star alongside Borat breakout star Maria Bakalova in a new rom com currently being filmed in Italy.

The Honeymoon revolves around two newlyweds’ trip of a lifetime to Venice being ruined by the groom’s ‘excessively needy’ best friend. It also co-stars relatively unknown actor Pico Alexander

Bulgarian-born Bakalova, 25, was nominated for an Oscar for playing Tutar Sagdiyev, the daughter of Sacha Baron Cohen’s title character in Borat Subsequent Moviefilm.

She told Hollywood website Deadline:  ‘This film intrigued me because it’s an escapist comedy that put a twist on the classic buddy movie format by including a strong female character, particularly from Eastern Europe.

‘I think after almost two years of this pandemic, we’re all looking for something to lift our spirits and help us mentally escape our apartments.’

The Honeymoon is written and directed by Dean Craig, who made last year’s Netflix romcom Love Wedding Repeat
