Katherine Ryan records new stand-up show for Amazon

With four fellow comics each show

Katherine Ryan is filming a new stand-up showcase for Amazon next month.

Backstage with Katherine Ryan will be taped at the London Roundhouse over six nights, with each episode featuring a bill of four other comedians.

The format will have a Q&A element with the comic having previously put out a call for fans to submit ‘burning questions’ for the show.

Backstage is being made by Expectation Entertainment, whose other credits include The Big Narstie Show, Mel Geidroyc’s Unforgiveable, and Jeremy Clarkson’s I Bought The Farm and The Grand Tour, both also for Amazon.

Ryan’s semi-autobiographical narrative comedy The Duchess aired on the streaming service last year, but in April she revealed that it had not been renewed for a second series.

At the time she said she wasn't ‘terribly sad’ about the decision, explaining: ‘I feel like it's a whole lot of work for a whole lot of time, to make a sitcom… I was so grateful to be able to make it, but I think it speaks for itself. I kind of like the way it ended. ‘I think it's fine for me if it sits on a platform almost like a film, so I'm really chill with things.’

And clearly Amazon is keen to maintain their relationship with the star – who has just become a mother for the second time – with the commission of this new  show.

It is being recorded on August 11, 13, 14, 16, 17 and 19 and free audience tickets are available from Standing Room Only.

The company also has tickets to the taping of the new series of Comedians Giving Lectures with Sara Pascoe, here.
