Jerry Seinfeld to make a film based on his Pop-Tarts bit

'Giant, crazy comedy movie' for Netflix

Jerry Seinfeld is to make a full movie – based on a single section from his stand-up routine.

Unfrosted is based on his observation about Pop-Tarts, in which he mused: ‘How did they know that there would be a need for a frosted fruit-filled heated rectangle in the same shape as the box it comes in, and with the same nutrition as the box it comes in?’

The comic told Hollywood website Deadline: ‘Stuck at home watching endless sad faces on TV, I thought this would be a good time to make something based on pure silliness.

‘So we took my Pop-Tart stand-up bit from my last Netflix special and exploded it into a giant, crazy comedy movie.’

The film - which he co-wrote with his Bee Movie collaborators Spike Feresten and Barry Marder – will go into production in the spring.

It will be the comic’s latest collaboration with the streaming service, with has his interview series Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee and the two stand-up specials Jerry Before Seinfeld and 23 Hours to Kill.

Netflix has also made a global deal to stream episodes of Seinfeld for five years, beginning later this year.

Seinfeld previously explained how he came up with the Pop-Tart bit in an interview with the New York Times, explaining how it took him two years to come up with.
