Mae Martin's Feel Good to return

Filming starts on second series for Netflix (but not Channel 4)

Netflix has ordered a second series of Mae Martin comedy Feel Good.

Shooting has started on the new episodes in London, with the British-based Canadian comedian revealing the news from the set.

While season 1, which aired in March, was a co-production with Channel 4, Netflix will be the exclusive home for the second series.

In her video, Martin explains that the show is a ‘semi-autobiographical comedy-drama about a recovering alcoholic and stand-up comedian who gets into a new relationship with someone who’s previously been heterosexual.  And so they are navigating that. There’s loads of drama, but it’s a funny comedy. I promise.

‘A lot of the time when we see addiction represented on TV, it’s shown as this really dark, harrowing experience, which it can be. But a lot of us have had the experience of doing something compulsively despite it having negative consequences.

‘I think it’s important to show the mundanity of addiction and the universality of that experience. I really hope you like it and I’m excited for you to see it’.

Martin co-created the show with writer Joe Hampson, and stars alongside Charlotte Ritchie, who plays her girlfriend. The cast also includes Friends star Lisa Kudrow, Philip Burgers, known on the circuit as Dr Brown, and Adrian Lukis.

New cast joining for the second season include Anthony Head, Jordan Stephens, John Ross Bowie, Eleanor  Matsuura and rapper Eve.

Martin added: ‘I’m beyond excited to be able to  return to the world of Feel Good, and to see Mae and George's love story through to the dramatic conclusion we had always planned.

‘I'm really deeply attached to this story and I'm so grateful to be getting back to work with the incredible team.

Series 1 was recently named best comedy at the Edinburgh Television Awards.
