Gavin and Stacey stars to reunite

Christmas Day radio special for Joanna Page, Mathew Horne and other cast members

Gavin and Stacey stars Joanna Page and Mathew Horne are to reunite for a Christmas Day radio special.

The pair, who play the title characters of the hit BBC comedy, will co-host a show on BBC Radio Wales from midday to 2pm on December 25.

They will also be joined by their sitcom co-stars Melanie Walters (who plays Gwen), Larry Lamb (Mick), Alison Steadman (Pam), Steffan Rhodri (Dave Coaches), Robert Wilfort (Jason) and Laura Aikman (Sonia). There will also be a special message from Gavin and Stacey co-creator James Corden.

Page is already a familiar voice on BBC Radio Wales, having hosted a Sunday morning slot since earlier this year.

She said: ‘I absolutely love Christmas and I’ve been having a fantastic time doing my show on BBC Radio Wales, so when it came up that we could do a Christmas day show I knew that if there was anybody I’d want to share that with, it’s Mat. I love working with him, he’s so much fun."

And Horne added: ‘I jumped at the chance to do this show with Jo. I love working with Jo, I love Wales and I love doing radio.

‘Christmas Day is a special day and, particularly this year, it’s been very challenging for a lot of people, so it’s nice to feel like we might be bringing a little bit of joy"’

Other guests on the show will include Bonnie Tyler and Shakin’ Stevens.

BBC Radio Wales editor Colin Paterson said: ‘We’re excited to be reuniting Joanna and Mathew this Christmas. Having Wales’ best-loved couple, out of character, is a real treat. We hope their sense of fun will lift everyone’s spirits.’
