Writer Lorelei Mathias revamps her Break-Up Club novel

New edition out next month

Comedy writer Lorelei Mathias is releasing a new edition of her novel The Break-Up Club next month.

It is billed as a ‘substantially reworked and expanded’ version of the romcom first published by HarperCollins imprint One More Chapter in 2016.

The new edition, out on October 8, also comes with an audiobook narrated by content creator Hayley Morris.

It revolves around Holly, a character with severe executive dysfunction who leaves a partner who had become her carer, only to fall in with a chaotic support group.

Mathias, who has ADHD and , based the story on her own experiences and is proud to put neurodivergent characters at the centre of the story.

She said: 'If Friends was about the time in your life when your buddies were your family, this story is about the time just after – when you should've moved on but you've somehow failed to settle down... and refused to settle.

‘It’s about how invisible disabilities can make navigating modern love tougher than it already is: it's to confuse love for co-dependence. But it also shows how neurodivergent hearts and minds foster true friendships for life – ones that won't come apart in the wash as easily as some romances.'

The Break-Up Club  is available from Amazon priced £12.99 in paperback – or from uk.bookshop.org, below, which supports independent bookstores.
