Playing a fictionalised version of himself

Jim Jefferies is set to star in his own American sitcom.

The Australian comic, who cut his teeth on the UK circuit, will play a fictionalised version of himself in the as-yet-untitled series.

He is co-writing the show with Hot In Cleveland creator Suzanne Martin.

The NBC has made a so-called ‘put pilot’ commitment to the comedy – which means the network will have to pay a substantial financial penalty if the test episode doesn’t air.

‘I grew up watching the greatest sitcoms ever — Cheers, Frasier, Seinfeld and Friends,’ Jefferies told Hollywood industry website Deadline. ‘So when I had the chance to work with NBC, I jumped at the opportunity. I look forward to hopefully adding my new show to that list.’

Jefferies, who has his own late-night series on Comedy Central, previously co-created and starred in the US sitcom Legit, which aired for two seasons in 2013 and 2014.
