The week’s new comedy on demand…

Dear Joan And Jericha

Julia Davis and Vicki Pepperdine have returned as agony aunts Joan Damry and Jericha Domain, dishing out yet more unhelpful and explicit advice on issues such as female genital disorders and tips on how to spice up your love life.

Their dark, ad-libbed show – once described as ‘Derek and Clive Live meets Joyce Grenfell’ – started its a second series on Thursday, with the character drawing on their expertise in 'psycho-genital counselling' and sports journalism.

Gossipmongers

Also retuning is this podcast in which comics David Earl, Joe Wilkinson and Poppy Hillstead read out unsubstantiated rumours sent in by listeners. At the end of each episode they choose their favourite piece of gossip and help spread it further by getting Poppy to shout it out the window.

The first episode of series two features a woman with lots of tiny kidneys, an explosive Alsatian and sort of some fellowship ring gathered by a babbling brook.

And special guest is Ricky Gervais, who tells of Chopper Wilson, 'the hardest bloke in Whitley' – the Reading suburb where he grew up – who got his title because he allegedly once headbutted someone on a bus... through the window.

The Joke Thief

In this little-known, but critically quite well-regarded, Canadian film from last year, Frank D'Angelo plays a jaded, miserable comic, on the verge of being washed up because of his reputation for plagiarism. Then a fellow stand-up convinces a comedy club owner to give him some stage time and one last shot at redemption.

The 49-minute movie, shot over two days, has just landed on Amazon Prime.
