BBC season to mark Apollo 11 anniversary

Dara O Briain, Michael Palin and the Horrible Histories team are taking part in the BBC’s celebrations marking 50 years since the Moon landings.

Palin will read  By The Light Of The Moon by Tom Percival as a CBeebies Bedtime Story, while O Briain will be joining Professor Brian Cox for a Stargazing special.

In the 90-minute BBC Two programme, they will ravel to where the historic Apollo 11 mission began - Cape Canaveral in Florida –  and meet astronaut General Charlie Duke who tells what it was like to guide Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins to the surface of the moon.

O Briain will also feature in the Horrible Histories Moon Mayhem special on CBBC.

The BBC’s season also includes the Sci-Fi Prom with scores from cult space films; a feature-length documentary entitled 8 Days: To the Moon & Back and a  special edition of Cox and Robin Ince’s Radio 4 show Infinite Monkey Cage among other programming.

Apollo 11 touched down on the Moon’s surface on July 20, 1969.
