British comic co-created Bob Hearts Abishola with Big Bang Theory's Chuck Lorre

America’s CBS network has picked up the sitcom co-created by British comic Gina Yashere and US comedy titan Chuck Lorre.

Yashere is moving back to Los Angeles to write Bob Hearts Abishola, about a  white factory owner who falls in love with a Nigerian nurse he meets when he comes round after a heart attack.

Lorre has previously created a string of the biggest comedy shows on American TV, including  Grace Under Fire, Cybill, Dharma & Greg, Two and a Half Men, The Big Bang Theory, Mike & Molly and Mom. He will executive produce the new show with Yashere and his previous collaborators  Eddie Gorodetsky and Al Higgins

Yashere – who has been the British correspondent on the Daily Show – also has a role in the show, which she says will depict the first Nigerian family on an American sitcom.

Sitcom regular Billy Gardell plays Bob with Folake Olowofoyeku as Abishola.

A trailer has just been released for the series, whose title is styled as Bob ♥ Abishola and which is due to launch this autumn:
