Netflix says 'yes, yes, yes!' to more Sex Education
Second series commissioned
Netflix has confirmed that it is to make second season of Sex Education.
The news comes less than a month after the first season – featuring Gillian Anderson as a sex therapist – was released by the streaming giant.
Asa Butterfield will return as her socially awkward teenage son Otis with Emma Mackey (Maeve Wiley), Ncuti Gatwa (Eric Effiong), Aimee-Lou Wood (Aimee Gibbs) and Connor Swindells (Adam Groff) all slated to reprise their roles too.
In a rare movie Netflix released viewing figures for the show claiming more than 40 million households around the world watched it within the first four weeks of release, although the figure cannot be verified.
Production on season two is set to begin this spring.
Series creator Laurie Nunn – daughter of theatre director Trevor – said of the recommission: ‘The reception to series one has been so exciting. Seeing how people across the world have connected to characters that began as ideas in my head is incredible.
‘I’m hugely grateful to every person that has taken the time to watch the series, and I can’t wait to continue this amazing journey.”
Cindy Holland, vice president of Netflix’s original content, added: ‘Laurie Nunn has captured the awkward teenage experience with a lot of heart and humour.’
