BBC snaps up What We Do In The Shadows TV series

Matt Berry, Kayvan Novak and Natasia Demetriou star in vampire comedy

The BBC has brought the rights to air the TV comedy based on the vampire mockumentary movie What We Do In The Shadows.

Matt Berry, Kayvan Novak and Natasia Demetriou all star in the ten-part series, which is due to debut on America’s FX network in the spring.

The comedy is among a raft of programmes included in a new deal announced today, in which the BBC has the rights to all new scripted comedy and drama series from FX.

The only other comedy named in the initial batch of shows mentioned is Better Things, in which series creator Pamela Adlon plays a single mum with no filter raising her three daughters and watching out for her English mother, played by Celia Imrie, who lives across the street.

Flight Of The Conchords star Jemaine Clement and Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi are among the executive producers of the What We Do In The Shadows series. The pair wrote, directed and starred in the original 2014 mockumentary about the ordinary nightly life of vampires in New Zealand.

A teaser trailer for the TV series, which is set in New York and also stars Harvey Guillen and Mark Proksch, was released yesterday.
