Rachel Parris and This Country duo up for breakthrough honour

Nominees in Edinburgh TV Award announced

Comedian Rachel Parris and This Country creators Daisy and Charlie Cooper have been nominated for the breakthrough artist at  this year’s  Edinburgh TV Awards.

The shortlist also includes comic  Daniel Lawrence Taylor, creator of ITV2 comedy Timewasters, as well as Jack Rowan from Channel 4’s Born To Kill, hip-hop MC Rodney P, who presented a history of the genre for BBC Four, and Letitia Wright, who played Nish in the Black Mirror Black Museum anthology last year.

The Coopers’ BBC Three series has also been nominated for best comedy, alongside  Derry Girls, Peter Kay’s Car Share, Inside No.9, People Just Do Nothing and GameFace.

Meanwhile, Parris has shot to prominence thanks to her segments on BBC Two’s The Mash Report, many of which have gone viral, including one featuring a controversial image of Piers Morgan and Donald Trump.

Taskmaster series 5 and Harry Hill’s Alien Fun Capsule are up for best entertainment series alongside Celebs Go Dating, Love Island,  The Graham Norton Show and   Gogglebox

The awards will be presented by Frank Skinner at the Edinburgh TV festival in August.

He said: ‘Having finally reached that plane of consciousness from which I can watch others winning things and feel no pain, I am, at last, ready to host the Edinburgh TV Awards. And what host could ask for a better wind beneath his wings than an audience of TV executives? I cannot wait.’
