The week's comedy on demand

This week's comedy on demand…

Susan Calman's Mrs Brightside

Our on-demand round-up is something of a BBC  podcast special this week, with several new programmes coming out. In this one, Calman and her guests will discuss their experiences of depression and share other personal anecdotes - aiming to keep things  funny while tackling topics that can be difficult to speak about. Episode 1 is available to download here with  Jordan Brookes speaking about OCD and teen angst, as well as depression

Unpopped

This BBC podcast discusses all manner of pop culture. And the episode which dropped this week, is especially relevant to comedy fans as it discusses 'Seinfeld and the tyranny of endings', exploring how the disappointing finale of the biggest TV comedy around affected the shows that followed it. Host  Hayley Campbell is joined by journalists Lauren Bravo, Darren Richman and Sarah Dempster. Listen here.

The Andy Field Experience

The latest in Radio 1's podcasts – which also get a broadcast in a prime 3am slot – is, unusually, a sketch show.  Written and hosted by former Chortle Student Comedy Award winner Andy Field, pictured, each episode packs in over 30 sketches in 30 minutes include Rowboat Cop, who's like Robocop but he's in a rowboat (a gag you might recognise from his stand-up set); Danny Dyer, who's looking for dangerous places to leave his breadsticks; and Humpty Dumpty, who takes umbrage at not being addressed by his real name. The hour-long show also features comedians Helen Bauer, Huge Davies, Tamsyn Kelly and Martin Willis among others. Listen here.

Newsjack Unplugged

A new weekly spin-off podcast from the  Radio 4 Extra show features a mix of stand-up monologues, new sketches and archive skits from past series. Kiri Pritchard-McLean hosts the first episode released this week, in which she talks about the Irish abortion referendum, with Darren Harriott and Tez Ilyas lined up for future shows. The cast includes Luke Kempner, Emma Sidi and George Fouracres. Listen here

Ghostbusters

The all-female reboot proved controversial - at least in some quarters - when it was released in cinemas last year, with  Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones in the key roles. If you never saw it at the time, it's now streaming on Netflix here

iPlayer Box Sets

As Chortle reported yesterday, the BBC has added a raft of new comedy box sets to iPlayer with every episode of Extras, The League Of Gentlemen, Miranda, Citizen Khan and  Two Pints Of Lager And A Packet of Crisps now available to stream.
