Samantha apologises over Ivanka Trump insult

American comic Samantha Bee has apologised for a savage verbal attack on Ivanka Trump.

The comedian dropped the c-bomb when describing the president’s daughter on her TBS show Full Frontal, prompting a major political storm,

Following the outcry Bee backtracked, while the broadcaster also said it was a mistake to air the swear word in the pre-recorded show.

Bee tweeted: ‘‘I would like to sincerely apologize to Ivanka Trump and to my viewers for using an expletive on my show to describe her last night. It was inappropriate and inexcusable. I crossed a line, and I deeply regret it.’ 

The line had caused a political storm with White House press secretary Sarah Sanders calling it ‘vile and vicious’ , while advertisers including car company Autotrader and insurance firm State Farm pulling their ads.

Some commentators drew parallels with Roseanne Barr, who lost her ABC sitcom over a racist tweet about one of President Obama’s aides.

But while TBS said Bee had taken ‘the right action in apologising for the vile and inappropriate language she used’, it made no mention of any disciplinary action.

During her show, Bee addressed Ivanka directly, saying: ‘Let me just say to you, from one mother to another, do something about your dad’s immigration practices you feckless cunt. He listens to you. Put on something tight and low-cut and tell your father to fucking stop it.’

Last night she told a Los Angeles  audience that she didn’t want the focus to be on the ‘one bad word’ to overshadow the point she was making about the treatment of immigrant children and families
