Doctor Who duo reunited

Doctor Who co-stars David Tennant and Catherine Tate are set to be reunited in a new TV comedy.

Tate is also writing the show, Americons, about a couple who move to America.

According to showbusiness industry site Deadline, which broke the news, the show is ‘in the advanced stages of development for Sky One’.

Given its premise, the show seems perfect for a US sale, too, especially as Tate is known to American audiences for her role in the NBC version The Office as Nellie, a potential replacement for Steve Carell's Michael Scott 

After their Doctor Who pairing, in which Tate played Donna Noble to Tennant's Time Lord, the pair worked together on a stage production of Much Ado About Nothing in 2011 and the recent reboot of Disney animation DuckTales, where Tate voices villainous sorceress Magica De Spell and Tennant is Scrooge McDuck

Tennant is also due to appear in a new Radio 4 comedy, based on an Anton Chekhov play.

He will play the lead in Wild Honey, a radio version of an adaptation of the Russian’s work by Michael Frayn, the Radio Times reported yesterday.

Wild Honey – based on an untitled sprawling five-hour drama from Chekhov's earliest years as a writer – was first performed at London's National Theatre in 1984 and won three Olivier Awards, including one for Ian McKellen in the lead role of Platanov.

Tennant will take that role, a witty, smart village schoolmaster adored by  four women, in the Radio 4 adaptation. BBC7, the forerunner to Radio 4 Extra, previously adapted Wild Honey eight years ago, with McKellen reprising his role.
