Roseanne revival gets a second run

ABC renews sitcom after huge ratings

America’s ABC network has ordered a second season of the rebooted Roseanne.

The news comes as little surprise given the comeback episode attracted an audience of 18.2 million, with another 3.4million watching on catch-up within 24 hours.

Channing Dungey, president of ABC Entertainment, said: ‘We’re thrilled that America has welcomed the Conner family back into their homes.

‘The show is as fresh and relevant today as it was when it left the air 21 years ago. We can’t wait to see what the Roseanne team has in store for next year.’

Its runaway success is said to have taken Hollywood by surprise, prompting debate over whether there  are enough shows depicting working-class life and conservative political views.

As well as creator Roseanne Barr, the revival stars original cast including John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Sara Gilbert  and Michael Fishman.
