Opposite Jennifer Garner

David Tennant is to star in the US remake of Julia Davis’s comedy Camping.

He will appear alongside Alias star  Jennifer Garner in the new version, being adapted for HBO by Lena Dunham and Jenni Konner – the duo who previously created Girls.

Tennant will play Walt,  the role played by Steve Pemberton in the original when the character was called Robin.

And Garner, as previously announced, will play Kathryn, his obsessive, controlling wife. Vicki Pepperdine played the equivalent role in the original.

HBO have commissioned eight episodes – two more than initially ran on Sky Atlantic in 2016.

Konner and Dunham previously told Hollywood trade bible Variety: ‘We love Jennifer’s restraint and comedic timing, and we can’t wait for the warmth and intelligence she’ll bring to our central character, Kathryn. It’s truly a dream to have her first on our call sheet. Now we just have to write her some stunts.’

This is the first project from the pair since Girls ended last year. That comedy, which also aired on HBO, was nominated for 19 Primetime Emmys over its six seasons

Davis will be acting as one of the executive producers on the HBO version.
