Comedy Central buys the new Takeshi’s Castle

With Jonathan Ross providing commentary

Comedy Central has brought the rights to the revival of gameshow Takeshi’s Castle – and signed up Jonathan Ross  to provide comic commentary.

The new episodes will debut in the UK this autumn before airing on comedy Central channels across the world, except the US, Canada and Japan.

The format, which features 100 members of the public attempting to tackle a series of crazy obstacles, has been rebooted and will now be shot in HD for the first time.

The original first aired on Japan's Tokyo Broadcasting System in 1986, where it ran for four years, becoming a cult phenomenon on Challenge TV in the UK in 2002 and elsewhere around the globe. The new episodes will be shot in Thailand.

‘Takeshi’s Castle is the gold standard of physical game shows and we can’t wait to bring the delightful mayhem of this show back to the UK with this new series,’ said Louise Holmes of Comedy Central UK.

‘Jonathan’s comedic brilliance will add a fresh level of funny to this well-loved format for both original fans and hopefully, a whole new generation of "Keshi-heads".’
