Who does Ruby Wax think she is?

Comic to appear on BBC geneolgy show

Ruby Wax is to appear in Who Do You Think You Are? – after she begged the BBC to probe her family tree.

In 2013, she claimed she had been rejected from the show after producers told her that 'they already had too many stories about concentration camps.'

Her parents were Austrian Jews who fled the Nazis threat in 1939 and settled in America. Her father, Edward Wachs, then built a successful hot dog empire in Chicago.

But now the comedian says the BBC have relented, although she told the Daily Mirror she may have trouble piecing together her early life 'because I have blocked most of it out'.

'I had a troubled childhood,' the 64-year-old added. ' "My mother was mad and I spent the time on tenterhooks. It was tough and I didn’t have brothers or sisters to defuse the situation. I knew something wasn’t right but I only knew later she was nuts. I don’t know who she really is and that’s why I signed up, to find out more.'

Four years ago, Wax told the Daily Telegraph her shock at being told the Holocaust had been overdone.

'I called them and asked if they could do me,' she said. 'But they said, I swear to God, that they already had too many stories about concentration camps. That’s television. I was very surprised.'
