Sunday April 23

GLASGOW: Fred MacAulay headlines alongside a batch of Scotland’s finest circuit comedians in a benefit for the Scottish Book Trust at The Stand tonight. And it starts at 5pm, so plenty of time for reading afterwards...

Monday April 24

LONDON: Sara Pascoe’s Animal is a fascinating and funny look at evolutionary science and social behaviour based on the research she did for her first book. It plays the West End tonight, with a gig at the Duchess Theatre.

LONDON: Former Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg is a guest on the recording of Andy Parsons’ Slacktivist Podcast at Soho Theatre tonight, so expect questions about whether coalition with the Tories has done irreparable damage to the Lib Dems. Spectator political journalist Katy Balls and Matt Forde, political comedian in residence for TV channel Dave, are also on the show.

Tuesday April 25

LONDON: Lovers of slick comedy stay away, as the Weirdos collective of alternative comedy experimenters, including John Kearns, Pat Cahill and Adam Larter, convert The Bill Murray pub into Stonehenge for the night,

Thursday April 27

LONDON: Improv at the Comedy Store is normally restricted to the Players every Wednesday and Sunday. But the Noise Next Door have forged their high-energy set in the furnace of the circuit, so it works in a stand-up night. Add the brilliant schlubby shtick of Mike Wilmot, sharp Ian Moore and entertaining Funmbi Wilmot and that’s a strong line-up all weekend.

Friday April 28

MACHYNLLETH: Every comedian’s favourite annual comedy festival returns for an eighth year tonight, with locals and visitors forced to make some difficult decisions between the likes of James Acaster, Nish Kumar, Bridget Christie, Robin Ince and John-Luke Roberts… among many, many others.

AMERSHAM: A much smaller affair at the Potter’s Arms, with just three shows and the Noise Next Door’s family offering over the next three days. Headliner tonight is the dry Bob Mills, tomorrow the brilliantly insane Terry Alderton and Saturday is given over to the Comedy Store’s Cutting Edge format for topical comedy.
