Chris Addison to direct Dirty Rotten Scoundrels reboot

With Anne Hathaway and Rebel Wilson

Chris Addison is to direct the female-led remake of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.

Nasty Women, which stars Anne Hathaway and Rebel Wilson in the Michael Caine and Steve Martin roles, will be the comedian’s big-screen directorial debut.

However he has overseen episodes of Veep and The Thick Of It, in which he also starred, and a forthcoming instalment of Fox sitcom Fresh Off the Boat. He won a Directors Guild of America award for the Election Night episode of Veep.

In his new movie, he follows in the footsteps of Frank Oz, who directed the 1988 film about two conmen, one high-class, one low, who engage in a competition to swindle an heiress out of her fortune. In the new version, the mark is a naive tech prodigy.

The 1988 film was itself a reboot of Ralph Levy’s 1964 movie Bedtime Story, starring Marlon Brando, David Niven, and Shirley Jones.

Wilson tweeted that she was ‘so excited’ to be working with Addison.
