How Harry Hill remade Hollywood classics

To kill the time on tour...

Harry Hill has spoken of how he has produced shot-for-shot remakes of Hollywood classics to relieve the boredom of touring.

He has reshot Pulp Fiction, The Long Good Friday and The Godfather over three separate tours with the aid of his backing band and tour manager. Each scene was set up during the day, to kill time before the show in the evening.

‘The biggest one we did, which was the Hooves tour, we did The Godfather, we refilmed shot-for-shot The Godfather – all playing different parts, straight, trying to do it seriously’ he told Sara Pascoe on Radio 4’s Chain Reaction.

‘We would spend all day planning these shots, we would watch the videos – to the extent that the show started to suffer.

‘We filmed the Sicily scenes round the back of the Travelodge in Bradford.’

He said his cut lasted two-and-a-half hours - ‘longer than the actual film’ – and because they hadn’t finished the project by the time the tour ended, the gang wound up meeting up in their spare time to get the job done.

The comic revealed that he booked the Everyman in Notting Hill to screen the film to friends and family, but it didn’t get the reaction he expected

‘This wasn’t meant to be a comedy; we were really trying hard,’ he said. ‘And from the opening scene to the end, people were just crying with laughter.’

The show is due to air on Radio 4 at 11.30am on Monday. Here is the clip.
