Detectorists 'might be coming back'

More grist for the series 3 rumour mill

Mackenzie Crook comedy Detectorists looks set to return, one of its stars has hinted.

Simon Farnaby, who plays 'Art', so-nicknamed because of his likeness to Art Garfunkel, told Chortle the Bafta-winning show ‘might be coming back' more than a year after the last episode.

'Mackenzie is a mate of mine,’ he said. ‘He texted me recently saying, "Are you about for a little holiday?" They're like little holidays because we shoot in Suffolk and all go to this hotel, just stay there for two weeks. The sun's shining and it's really nice.'

In December, co-star Toby Jones also hinted at the show’s return, with filming possibly taking place this summer.

Speaking to Chris Evans on Radio 2 he said: ‘I think there is now a chance that that may come to pass. Mackenzie was talking about how that may happen. It’s not 100 per cent, but I think there’s a chance of it.’

The show has run  on BBC Four for two series of six episodes apiece, starting in 2014, plus a 2015 Christmas special.

Farnaby also spoke of how he was currently writing a film based on the ‘world’s worst golfer’, Maurice Flitcroft.
