Three book deal for Miles Jupp

...starting with Damien Trench's memoirs

Miles Jupp has signed a three-book publishing deal.

The first release will be a fictional memoir of Damien Trench, the fussy perfectionist culinary writer  from his Radio 4 sitcom In and Out Of The Kitchen.

Entitled Egg And Soldiers: A Childhood Memoir (With Postcards From The Present), it is due to be published next July.

That will be followed by a novel in 2018 and a non-fiction title to come in 2019.

Of Egg and Soldiers, Jupp said: ‘I am really enjoying writing this luxury, high-end and ultimately expensive book. Damien has an appalling tendency to go off at tangents, but I'm doing my best to rein him in where possible and happily mining the rich seam of anxiety and confusion of his formative years.

‘Whatever obstacles the past and present world throw up, his passion for good food, done well, remains undimmed. And there'll be recipes. Probably.’

Jupp previously published a book in 2013 called Fibber In The Heat, based on his stand-up show about blagging his way on to the England cricket World Cup tour.

The books will be published by Headline, whose commissioning editor Richard Roper told trade website The Bookseller: ‘Miles is a supremely talented writer and I am truly excited that he will first be delving into Damien Trench’s early years to explore how such pivotal moments as the Swiss Cottage Poo Incident’ set him on the path to becoming the respected broadcaster, author and all round good egg he is today.’

News Quiz host Jupp also starred in Rev and has appeared on Have I Got News For You, Mock The Week and Would I Lie To You? He’s currently on tour with stand-up show, Songs of Freedom.
