Taskmaster announces a UK arena gig

...and the Hollywood Bowl!

Taskmaster has announced two live shows – at Manchester's AO Arena and the Hollywood Bowl.

The show – which originated as a live event at the Edinburgh Fringe – made its large-scale theatre debut earlier this year on the East Coast of the US.

Now Greg Davies and Alex Horne will play Manchester's AO Arena on May 26 and the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on June 22 next year.

The LA venue has a capacity of 17,376 and was where Monty Python filmed a 1982 concert film and the Beatles recorded a live album.

Creator Horne said: ‘This is one of the maddest moments of my life. For me the Hollywood Bowl means Monty Python and the Manchester Arena means Oasis. Now it's our turn?! Luckily I'm with my biggest friend Greg so I'm going to be so brave.’

Davies added: ‘I am thrilled that my tiny assistant and I are to bring Taskmaster to such illustrious venues. Whilst on one hand it feels daunting, on the other it feels like destiny. Rest assured my judgements will remain even handed and every effort will be made for everyone to have a good time, except Alex.’

Each gig will feature a line-up of celebrity guests as contestants, though these have not yet been announced. When the show toured Chicago, Boston, Philadelphia, Washington DC and New York – selling out in 13 minutes – contestants included John Oliver, Seth Meyers, Lisa Gilroy and Jason Mantzoukas.

Tickets for the new shows go on pre-sale on October 14 for people signed up to the Taskmaster mailing list, with general sale opening on October 16.

Ricky Gervais set a Guinness World Record for the highest-grossing single gig by a stand-up comedian when he played the Hollywood Bowl in 2023, taking £1.41million.
