C4 buys This Is Us

New comedy-drama stormed US ratings

Channel 4 has acquired the UK rights to new American comedy This Is Us.

The ensemble show launched in the States this week, attracting 10million viewers to NBC.

It revolves around four people who share the same birthday: a young father, a successful businessman a sitcom star and his overweight twin sister - with episode one taking place on their 36th birhtday.

The show comes from Dan Fogelman, the writer and creator of Crazy, Stupid, Love, and stars Mandy Moore, Milo Ventimiglia and Sterling K. Brown.

Jay Hunt, Channel 4’s chief creative officer said: ‘This Is Us is unmissably life-affirming with a warmth that has drawn critical acclaim and bumper ratings. It’s a great addition to our strong slate of acquired shows – from Deutschland 83 to Fargo.’
