Germany 'set to remake Citizen Khan'

With family of immigrant Turks

Citizen Khan is set to be remade in Germany – and based around an immigrant Turkish family.

Creator Adil Ray says he is in talks with a broadcaster there, as the country expects to take in 1.5million migrants this year in a bid to ease the refugee crisis.

He told The Guardian: 'We've spoken to a German broadcaster who said, "This is fantastic because it's a little bit like the Turkish community here in Germany"… we would do a Turkish version of Citizen Khan. I get really excited by that.

'For us it's the Pakistan family in Birmingham but there is that kind of family in every country around the world, that immigrant experience of that family who then is caught between being represented by their original nationality and their new found identity… so I think that gives us quite a nice sort of global appeal.'

Original episodes of the sitcom, which starts its fourth series on BBC One on Friday, have also been sold to India, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and the Middle East.
