Chortle student semi-finals to be streamed live

The semi-finals of this year’s Chortle Student Comedy Award are to be streamed via Periscope.

In a first for the competition, anyone signed up to Twitter’s live video-streaming service will be able to watch the acts live online from just after 8pm, via the @chortle account.

The gigs take place tonight and tomorrow at the Tattersall Castle in London, the floating venue which hosts the regular Boat Show comedy night.

Chortle editor Steve Bennett said: ‘There’s never any substitute for seeing stand-up live, but this will allow the contestants’ supporters to watch their progress if they can’t make it to London.’

Tickets are available for the shows, here for tonight, hosted by Ray Peacock and here for tomorrow, hosted by Ed Gamble.

Four winners from each night will be selected to take part in the final at the Edinburgh Fringe on August 24. Each of the finalists will also be invited to perform in the comedy arena of the Latitude Festival in Suffolk from July 16 to 19.
