E4 to air The Goldbergs

Nostalgic family sitcom imported

Channel 4 has bought the rights to hit US sitcom The Goldbergs.

The first season of the 1980s-set show will air on E4 staring in in early 2015.

The Goldbergs premiered in the US on ABC in September 2013 with a debut audience of more than 11 million, and the first series averaged seven million viewers across its 23 episode run.

The series stars Curb Your Enthusiasm’s Jeff Garlin as patriarch Murray and Wendi McLendon-Covey as his wife, Beverly. Patton Oswalt narrates, as the adult version of the family’s youngest child, Adam.

Mike Wald of Sony Pictures Television, which struck the deal, said: ‘The Goldbergs have already proved to be immensely popular with viewers in the US with the show's brilliant blend of humour, nostalgia and original storytelling. Following our recent sale of hit comedy Marry Me, it will make a great addition to E4’s new year programming.’
