King, queen or Jack of comedy...

British Comedy Award voting opens

Jack Whitehall is to defend his position as king of comedy as the nominations for the public-voted British Comedy Award are unveiled.

The comic is going for the hat trick after winning the title in 2012 and 2013. He is up against Jo Brand, Graham Norton, Greg Davies. David Mitchell and Lee Mack – placing the two Would I Lie To You? captains in direct competition.

Voting has just opened on the polls here which close at 10pm on December 14. The show itself, again hosted by Jonathan Ross, takes place on the 16 and will air on Channel 4 the following night.

It has also been announced that this year's British Comedy Awards will be sponsored by Lidl.

Matt Berry and his sitcom Toast Of London lead this year's British Comedy Awards shortlists, with a total of eight nominations. Full list of nominees.
