E4 gets into bed with Jane The Virgin

Broadcaster buys US comedy

E4 has bought the rights to US comedy series Jane The Virgin.

The programme, which launches in the States tonight on The CW channel, is about a religious young Latina woman determined to save her virginity until her marriage. However after a mix-up at a clinic she is artificially inseminated, leaving her with some difficult explaining to do.

The Miami-set comedy, starring Gina Rodriguez, is due to air next year on E4. It is a loose adaptation of the Venezuelan telenovela Juana la Virgen.

Channel 4’s chief creative officer, Jay Hunt said: 'Jane The Virgin feels genuinely innovative and fresh and I’m thrilled it will be joining the stellar line up of acquired shows on E4.'

Stephen Tague, of producers CBS Studios, sadder: ‘Jane The Virgin was one of the most talked-about comedies at LA Screening this year, and we are delighted to be working with Channel 4 to bring this fresh new series to E4’s young audience.’
