T In The Park responds over all-male comedy bill

...but it's not very useful

Organisers of Scotland's T In The Park festival have responded to criticisms that the comedy line-up they unveiled yesterday featured no female acts.

But the statement issued by the organisers largely avoided the issue in favour of publicity puff.

The only acknowledgement of the issue was that there would be some female performers among the 200 acts over the three-day event next month.

The statement from a festival spokesperson said, in full: 'Today we revealed the first details of the bill for the Scottish Sun Big Top, which will host a variety of entertainment over the festival weekend. A comedy strand curated by The Stand Comedy Club will see the likes of Russell Kane, Lee Nelson and Andrew Maxwell set to take to the stage over the course of the weekend, alongside a host of other names which are still to be announced. The Scottish Sun Big Top is one of 8 stages at T in the Park 2014, which will see over 200 acts appear across the festival weekend including many female performers.'

Ellie Goulding, Katy B and Sophie Ellis-Bextor are among the female musicians already announced.

The row follows the V Festival also announcing no female comics for its stand-up tent - although since the controversy it has emerged that British-based Canadian Dana Alexander has been booked, but was not named in the initial line-up.
