New chat show for Alan Davies

Aims to recreate backstage at a comedy club

Alan Davies is to front his own chat show on digital channel Dave.

The broadcaster has ordered five hour-long shows from Davies, who is currently hosting the Winter Olympic themed Apres Ski show on BBC Two.

Dave say the new show aims to recreate the atmosphere of comedians bantering backstage.

Commissioning editor Iain Coyle told trade magazine Broadcast: ‘Any comic will tell you the funniest place at a comedy club is not on stage or in the audience, but in the green room or dressing room. There you get a different type of funny.’

The same idea lay behind The Green Room with Paul Provenza, which ran for two seasons on American cable channel Showtime.

The new series is scheduled to air in the summer.
