TV channel snaps up online talent

New TV station London Live has commissioned two more comedy commissions on the back of online hits.

The broadcaster has previously announced it is making its own sitcom, All About The McKenzies, following its success as a YouTube channel, as well as acquiring rights to air repeats of Spaced, Twenty Twelve and Peep Show.

Now it has announced two more comedies among a raft of commissions for its 11pm Raw slot, which is designed to showcase emerging talent and have an ‘urban’ theme.

First is The T-Boy Show, starring Tolulope Ogunmefun, also known as Don’t Jealous Me, a YouTuber and star of the online sitcom Meet The Adebanjos. The eight-part series follows the culture-clashing exploits of a rich Nigerian boy who comes to live with his cousin and aunt in London

The other is Brothers With No Game: a comedy drama series based on the YouTube show of the same name.

It follows four young Londoners who have no success in their love lives and features ‘light-hearted relationship advice from the characters, urban celebrities and real people’. London Live hopes it will be the channel’s answer to Girls.

The channel, backed by the London Evening Standard, launches on March 31.
