SA comic Trevor lands his own US sitcom

Trevor Noah is to star in his own American sitcom.

The South African comic, and regular visitor to Britain, will also producer the half-hour comedy for the Fox network.

Hollywood website Deadline reports that the show will be 'inspired by Noah’s comedy and life', and be written by Sameer Gardezi, whose credits include Modern Family and Outsourced.

The show is being made by Will Smith’s Overbrook Entertainment with production company Legendary Television.

Noah grew up in Soweto as the son of a Swiss father and South African mother; and last year he became the first South African comedian to appear on The Tonight Show. He was also one of the most talked-about acts of the 2012 Edinburg Fringe with his show The Racist, which was backed by Eddie Izzard.
