By US Critics' Circle

Critics have named Big Bang Theory the best comedy show in America.

The sitcom won three awards at the Critics' Choice TV Awards in Los Angeles last night, including best comedy series.

The CBS show triumphed over fellow nominees Louie, The Middle, New Girl, Parks and Recreation and Veep

In the leading actor categories, Louis CK took the male title for Louie, while former Seinfeld star Julia Louis-Dreyfus took the best actress accolade for her starring role in Armando Iannucci’s Veep.

Stand-up Patton Oswalt won the award for best guest performer in a comedy series for his appearance in Parks and Recreation.
