Comedy video competition launches... but there's a twist

Leading comedy production company Hat Trick are to launch a short video competition – inspired by their own logo.

Entries in the The Short and Funnies competition – which has a £3,000 prize – must feature a rabbit somewhere in their submission.

The winner also gets a pitching session with Hat Trick, whose shows include Have I Got News For You, Father Ted and Outnumbered.

Managing director, Jimmy Mulville, said: ‘Hat Trick are always on a mission to find the comedy talent of the future. We’re excited to offer this opportunity to comedy filmmakers, and we really look forward to working alongside the winners to develop further ideas.’

The competition is being launched in conjunction with a new comedy YouTube channel, Bad Teeth, which launches in the new year.

Rules say: ‘Entries can be a sketch, a prank, a character piece to camera or even a proper narrative story, but it must draw inspiration from the Hat Trick logo; somehow, somewhere, a rabbit must feature.’

Films must be between two and five minutes long, and the competition is open for entries from Monday until February 14. More details are available here.

Meanwhile, Chortle continues to offer £200 for the best video submitted for use on this site every month. Full details are here
