Dylan Moran's next movie

Shooting starts on Calvary

Dylan Moran has signed up to appear in the new Irish film from The Guard director John Michael McDonagh.

He will appear alongside Brendan Gleeson, Chris O’Dowd, and fellow comic Pat Shortt in the ‘dark comedy drama’ entitled Calvary.

Shooting began in County Sligo this week and the film – about a good priest tormented by his community – will be released in the UK and Ireland next year.

McDonagh said: ‘It is with great excitement, bordering on tumescence, that I am looking forward to collaborating once more with Ireland's greatest actor, Brendan Gleeson, and working with the finest ensemble cast ever assembled in the history of Irish cinema.

‘I would like to thank the Irish Film Board, and the BFI, for their continuing support for filmmaking that seeks to escape from the tiresome, rarefied confines of Dublin 4. Up the West!

The cast also includes Marie Josée Crozé, Isaach De Bankol, Kelly Reilly, Aidan Gillen, Domhnall Gleeson and David Wilmot.

Moran's previous film credits include Shaun Of The Dead, Run Fatboy Run and A Film With Me In It.
