The Infidel gets Hindi remake

Baddiel's film taken to India

David Baddiel's film The Infidel is to be remade in Hindi.

Indian studio has brought the right to remake the film, which originally starred Omid Djalili as a Muslim man who finds out that he was adopted, and technically 'born Jewish'.

Baddiel's script will be rewritten to be set among Indian Muslims and Hindus.

Trigno director Sajjad Chunawala said: 'People are terrified about race and religious issues, especially issues surrounding Muslims and Hindus, and when people are terrified, what they really should do is laugh.

'The Infidel is a hilarious story of a man caught between his religion and his conscience and is a story that has immense relevance to India and is a fantastic and important film that is waiting to be made.'

Uzma Hasan, who struck the deal for the rights, added: 'It's been incredible to watch The Infidel resonate with audiences across the globe; I'm excited to see it reinterpreted in one of world's most richly diverse nations.'

The 2010 original has been released in 22 countries and grossed some £2.9million.
