Making a decent Fist of it

Details of Lee & Herring DVD revealed

Richard Herring has revealed details of the long-awaited Fist Of Fun DVD.

The first series of the Nineties show that gave him and Stewart Lee their first TV break is to be released next month for £25.

The release includes all six episodes, plus a remarkable 11 hours of extras including a 1995 Lee and Herring live show, an unbroadcast pilot episode, four hours of commentaries, a new 35-minute feature called Lee And Herring’s 90s Nostalgia and all 272 minutes of surviving studio rushes.

Independent label Go Faster Stripe secured the rights to the cult series after the BBC declined to release it, despite a campaign by fans and Herring himself. Writing on his Warming Up blog, Herring said: ‘Many of you seem very excited about this, but I am too. There are plenty of extras... and hopefully the investment made by [Go Faster Stripe boss] Chris Evans will pay off.

‘I am pretty certain we won't lose money on it. As long as the excited tweets about it translate into sales we should be able to continue living in our homes.

‘The studio extras are all very interesting, even if it's a bit weird for me to see myself so young (and at times idiotic) and in certain episodes things are a little tense (but you'll find that interesting).

‘Series two will follow next year and if these do OK we'll look into bringing out TMWRNJ [their TV follow-up, This Morning With Richard Not Judy] and maybe our radio stuff too.’

And on Twitter he defended the cost of the four-disc set, pointing out: ‘It's costing around about £45,000 to buy this from BBC and pay for production.’

Herring has also posted a proof version of the DVD sleeve on his website here.

The Fist of Fun DVD will only be available from Go Faster Stripe, or from Lee and Herring at their gigs.
