Chicken Shop Date ends
Amelia Dimoldenberg winds up her hit series
Amelia Dimoldenberg has announced she will end Chicken Shop Date after more than a decade.
The presenter broke the news on Instagram, saying ‘all good dates must come to an end’.
The series of comically awkward interviews began in 2014 when Dimoldenberg, then 14, was working for The Cut, a youth magazine based in her London youth club.
It has grown from modest beginnings to feature interviews with the likes of Paul McCartney, Jennifer Lawrence, Sabrina Carpenter, Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman. Her talk with Chunkz and Yung Filly has attracted 19million views, and the episodes regularly top 10million views
Breaking the news of the series’ end on Instagram, Dimoldenberg wrote: ‘When I was 17 I had a fantastic idea that I might meet the love of my life on a date in a chicken shop.
‘I’ve spent my entire twenties sitting across from the most incredible people, people I’d always dreamt of meeting. All of them charmed me (some more than others) and I definitely charmed them.
‘To me the show is my very own romcom and I have loved creating so many stories for you to watch. I am so grateful to everyone who has followed me on this journey and found some joy in these episodes.
‘I never thought I’d stop Chicken Shop Date, I thought maybe it would be a part of me forever, and in some way it always will, but I feel like it’s now time to move on from this adventure and onto a new one.
‘But before I say goodbye forever, I want to celebrate everything Chicken Shop Date has been for me with a few final dates…coming very soon.’
Outside of Chicken Shop Date, Dimoldenberg has fronted a Channel 4 documentary meeting members of Meghan Markle's family, has been a contestant on Taskmaster’s New Year's Treat, and made two series of the online series Passenger Princess for F1, taking driving lessons from racing champions.
Comedian Ania Magliano – now a cast member on Saturday Night Live UK – helped Dimoldenberg write some of Chicken Shop Date.
