Company coffers swelled in 2025
Stephen Merchant's wealth grew by more than £10.5million last year, newly released accounts show.
The assets of his company, SJJM Ltd, rose from £30.48 million to £41.05 million over the course of 2025.
It came despite the comedian having a relatively low-profile year, with his acting credits limited to a single episode of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon and a supporting role in Kate Winslet’s modestly budgeted film Goodbye June.
However, he also had an executive producer credit on American sitcom The Paper, as it is set in the same universe as the US version of The Office.
Merchant also signalled a tentative return to stand-up with a few work-in-progress gigs over the year.
His coffers are set to swell further, as a stage musical based on his 2019 movie Fighting With My Family is in the pipeline. Merchant wrote and directed the film and is producing the stage show with Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s Seven Bucks Productions and the Birmingham Hippodrome.
Merchant has said the story – based on the real life of WWE superstar Paige (Saraya-Jade Bevis) – always felt destined for the stage.
He said: ‘I approached each Wrestling match like it was a different dance number, building to a big show-stopping finale. Seeing the film reimagined for the stage feels like the natural next step."
Johnson, who appeared in and produced the film, added: ‘Fighting With My Family feels exceptionally well-suited for the stage. It’s packed with personal emotion expressed through the dynamic world of wrestling, which has always been about storytelling and connecting with a live audience.’
The show – written by Jon Brittain with music by Miranda Cooper and Nick Coler – is expected to premiere in 2027.
