Who said he was no oil painting?

Frank Skinner in portrait show

Frank Skinner and Catherine Tate are to be immortalised in copies of famous portrait paintings in a new Sky Arts show.

They are among the celebrities to be painted by master art forger John Myatt in the returning series Fame In The Frame.

Skinner dons a felt hat for Vincent Van Gogh’s Self Portrait 1888 and Tate transforms into Sarah Siddons as the Tragic Muse by Joshua Reynolds.

Other stars taking part are Paul O’Grady, appearing in a version Grant Wood’s American Gothic, Terry Gillian as The Buddha by Odilon Redon, Tamsin Grieg as Lady Agnew of Lochnaw by John Singer Sargent and Lauren Laverne as Vladimir Tretchikoff’s Chinese Girl.

In the series, Myatt also reveals some of his secret forging techniques and divulges his tips on how to paint in the style of the original artist.

Sky Arts channel director James Hunt said: ‘Myatt is a master in capturing the true character of his sitter making the interviews as insightful and inspiring as the portrait itself.’

Fame In The Frame returns to Sky Arts 1 on September 27.
