Writers' new comedy-drama

Peep Show creators Jesse Armstrong and Sam Bain are to write a major new Channel 4 comedy-drama.

Fresh Meat will be a ‘no-holds barred’ look at six students who share a house in Manchester. Channel 4 drama head Camilla Campbell said it would be ‘like Skins two years on, or This Life with more jokes’.

Bain and Armstrong will lead a team of writers for the eight 45-minute episodes, although the broadcaster hopes it could eventually be a long-running series.

The production will also take some cues from American sitcoms, with more than one read-through for each script and the writers workshopping ideas with actors.

The show will air sometime next year – and is one of the reasons the next series of Peep Show will be delayed until 2012.
