Voting opens on mag's comedy awards

The nominations have been announced for this year's Loaded Laftas for the most famous names in comedy.

The awards honour big stars, with the best stand-up category having been won by Jimmy Carr three times and Michael McIntyre once. Both are again in the running, alongside Kevin Bridges, Reginald D Hunter and Ricky Gervais.

There are also separate categories for 'funniest man' and 'funniest woman', while the awards are also running an 'X-Factor style competition' at Jongleurs comedy clubs to win the £500 'rising star’ category.

Other categories include 'funniest sidekick,' 'funniest Twitterer' and – in what cynics might consider a bid for newspaper coverage – 'funniest columnist', in which showbiz writers for all three red-top tabloids are shortlisted.

Winners are decided by registered visitors to Loaded's website from now until January 24, and will be handed out in London on February 1.

Loaded editor Andy Sherwood said the awards, which are sponsored by flavoured milk drink Yazoo, 'put the "great" into "great British comedy' . Whatever that means…
