Sarah Millican signs DVD deal

Rare release for a female comic

Sarah Millican has signed a deal to release her first ever stand-up DVD – even though the video label says female comics rarely sell as well as men.

The Geordie comedian has signed a deal with Channel 4’s distribution company 4DVD to release her forthcoming tour Chatterbox some time next year.

Millican is currently performing the show at the Edinburgh Fringe, and her profile looks set to get a further boost when she appears on Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow this autumn and the Royal Variety Show in December.

Liz Hadley, comedy A&R manager for 4DVD said: ‘Female comics have not traditionally performed as well as their male counterparts on DVD. We believe Sarah will break the mould.

‘We've had huge success launching new comedians on DVD over the last few years and we're confident we will replicate this success with Sarah. We're very excited to be working with her.’

Millcan, who is is represented by Chambers Management, won the if.comedy best newcomer award in 2008, and is about to start work on the second series of her Radio 4 show Sarah Millican’s Support Group.
